What Students should expect

Mr. Balasa focuses his instructions on mastering the fundamentals of violin playing and musicality for beginning and intermediate players and on the development of rigorous technique, sound projection and preparation for solo public performances for advanced players. Professional violin lessons are offered on a one-on-one basis in a fun yet challenging environment where you will::

  • Learn about how your violin creates sound and how to have powerful and emotive performances on stage.
  • Learn correct violin technique. Emphasis will be placed on left hand proficiency (development of finger strength, vibrato, finger separation, etc.) and right hand technique (bow hold, bow strokes, wrist & finger development exercises, etc.) which is most responsible for sound creation.
  • Learn how to practice effectively to advance quickly to the next level.
  • Learn the fundamentals of public performance: preparation, stage presence, sound projection, etc.
  • Receive a comprehensive musical education: learn music theory, history of music, instrument care, etc.  Every student will be prepared to take the music theory examination administered by the Northern Virginia Music Teachers Association (NVMTA) in the beginning of every year.
